Theater of Light and Shadow (In Place of a Foreword)

Every Home is a living, breathing organism, inseparably bound to us. It doesn’t just shelter us from the weather — it gives us strength, inspiration, and enormous creative potential, whatever it is we do.

Over the course of a day, the sun comes into the Home. Here, it plays the role of the chief, invisible stage director. Passing through the windows, its rays create their own unrepeatable, minute-by-minute play of light and shadow: they place accents, pull hidden meanings out of the darkness, or, just as often, gently conceal entire scenes. The sun seems to appoint a single object as the star of the interior’s stage — for just a few moments, until the ray shifts.

Mirrors and glossy surfaces are drawn into this subtle drama too, doubling the space and creating illusions and unexpected reflections. Objects enter into a silent dialogue with one another, swapping roles and moods.

It’s worth watching these intricate, elusive games of the Home as often as possible. It’s in these very moments that we develop our own imagination, learn to see beauty in the everyday, and come to know so much more about the secret, deep life of our Home. Welcome to our Interior Theater.
